Soaked by Oil: Chalk Point Oil Spill, April 2000

Title

Soaked by Oil: Chalk Point Oil Spill, April 2000

Description

This is an editorial piece for the Washington Post section called “Close to Home” that focuses on local communities and publishes articles from local community members. This letter was written two weeks after the spill by the President and CEO of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation whose mission statement is “Saving the Bay through education, advocacy, litigation, and restoration.” The letter describes the damage that was done by the oil spill and who they felt was responsible and how it could be prevented in the future. Along with the letter, there was a picture of an oil-soaked bird. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation was involved in the clean up of the oil spill and the class action suit that followed.
